30 Vegetarians From Hawaii Talking About Thanksgiving
This is a ‘talk story’ episode.
‘Talk story’ is a Hawaiian Pidgin English term that means something like ‘chit-chat.’
So in this episode, we talk story about our childhood experiences of celebrating Thanksgiving while growing up in Hawaii (our pre-vegetarian days!).
That’s why Toast is talking pidgin in this one.
If you wanna hear more pidgin, here’s a video 😁(by Andy Bumatai, a popular island comedian; we grew up laughing at his jokes, too).
Siena grew up in a Filipino-American family.
Toast grew up in a Japanese-American family.
Both of us grew up in Hawaii.
Which is the 50th State of the United States.
So with that mix of…
Asian
Hawaiian
and ’white’ culture
…it gets really interesting and American in the most holistic way:
immigrant
indigenous
and inclusive/integrated/assimilated
So with that, we simply wish you and yours a very happy and meaningful Thanksgiving!
