32 Space Clearing
You clean your house right? How come?
Because. Grime builds up.
That’s just life.
We do Space Clearing for the same reason.
We don’t want to live amidst energy grime!
What’s Space Clearing?
Space clearing is cleaning the energy in your house.
And by energy, we mean the feeling, vibe, ambiance, atmosphere…the sensation and emotional character that a place has.
In other words, does a space feel oppressive, frenetic, or chaotic?
Or, uplifting and expansive? Peaceful?
Here’s how we normally do our Space Clearing
Scent/Smoke
We burn white sage and fan the smoke around each room, with the windows open.
We also sometimes spray an air-freshener type of liquid, but one that’s intended for space clearing. For this, we use a mixture of water, an essential oil (white sage, grapefruit, or eucalyptus), and alcohol (as a preservative).
Sound
We also speak out loud our intentions and the energy we want for our house.
“We dedicate this home to peace.”
“We declare this house is a place of kindness.”
“We only allow the energy of love in this home.”
etc.
We may also clap (yup, with our hands), especially in the corners of rooms, and behind doors.
Intention
This might be the most important part about Space Clearing.
Ya gotta use your heart and soul and spirit, and mean it.
Just like a monarch can decree that A Thing Be So within their kingdom, you can decree that within your domain of authority (it’s your home, after all) A Thing Be So, energetically.
Set the energetic atmosphere that you want.
Salt
We’ve also sometimes placed little piles Hawaiian sea salt on the floor in the corners of rooms, in doorways, and even outside, around our house.
This is more for heavy-duty purification.
After the energy feels clearer and cleaner, you just sweep up the salt and dispose of it.
After Space Clearing…
We recommend that you either take a shower, or wash your hands to above your elbows.
Other tools for Space Clearing
Here are more tools used for Space Clearing:
burning sweetgrass
burning palo santo
ringing a bell or gong
lighting firecrackers (!) – while growing up in Hawaii, we were told that the custom of lighting a long string of red firecrackers at midnight on New Year’s Eve was to scare away evil spirits. That’s Space Clearing! Have you ever spent a New Year’s Eve in Hawaii? Bring ear plugs. You can’t even hear yourself yelling with all the thousands of firecrackers going off in your yard, along with practically everyone else’s yard in the neighborhood. It’s an amazing tradition. Though, it’s not so great for the environment or for the respiratory system. Sometimes these traditions don’t scale very well in our age of overpopulation :(
