204 Automatic Pet Feeder by PetKit

In this episode, we share our experience with the YumShare Dual-hopper with Camera, an automatic pet feeder by PETKIT.

To be clear: there are NO affiliate links here. Like all our other episodes, we just wanted to share, in case it might be helpful for you.

But first, we chat about some simple things you can do, especially for indoor-only cats, to give them a better, more enriching life.

For example, believe it or not, just moving some furniture around the house every so often helps.

Of course, you definitely want to give them a comfortable window seat to watch ‘Cat TV,’ too – meaning, being able to watch birds, people, or wildlife outside your windows.

While we recommend AGAINST using an automatic feeder to deliver your pet’s meals, we’ve had a really good experience using this automatic feeder to serve up snacks.

(You want to prepare and serve meals the ‘old-fashioned’ way, by hand, because it’s an irreplaceable way to bond with your pet.)

Having said that, here are notes on our experience with the YumShare Dual-hopper with Camera by PetKit.

The features of this automatic feeder includes (but are not limited to)…

  • a camera that records video (up to 30 days, with a subscription to the PetKit app), so you can have visual confirmation of food being dispensed, and your cat eating

  • two separate hoppers so you can dispense two different types of dry food

  • the option to pre-program set times to dispense food

  • the option to manually trigger dispensing food, too

  • a steel bowl that’s super easy to remove and wash

  • the ability to record your own voice to play back for your cat to hear (we’ve never used this. kinda creepy.)

  • although it’s plugged into the wall outlet, it also takes four D batteries that will be used in case of a power outage

  • there’s also a subscription available if you want to buy desiccant packets to keep the food in the hoppers fresher for longer

For more info, definitely check out the PetKit website.

We’ve had only good experiences with this product so far.

It’s been really reliable and has greatly eased Siena’s mind when we’re away from the house for extended periods of time, and it’s even made giving Bear a snack a lot more convenient, even when we’re at home.

This must be quite a small cat in this photo, because the automatic feeder looks very large here.
