You don’t know what you would’ve done, had you lived during pivotal times in history: to free people from enslavement, to beat back Nazism, to fight for civil rights, etc.
But you can know what you’d do in the fight to save our democratic republic’s constitutional system of checks and balances. It’s whatever you are doing, now.

*not mentioned in this ep, but it bears saying here: lengthen your time horizon; the significance and impact of your actions today carry on, beyond just one election, and beyond even your lifetime. Susan B. Anthony died without seeing women granted the legal right to vote nationwide. That happened in 1920, fourteen years after she’d died. But it happened because, in huge part, of what she did while she was alive. You’re taking action, not because it’s a quick win; you’re taking action because it’s the right thing to do and because it brings “happiness more sublime than life’s fleeting pleasures.”
