165 Skilled vs. Unskilled Acceptance of a Situation

This hailstorm was a few days before Summer Solstice!

We’re often told to cultivate an attitude of acceptance in our lives, while simultaneously being told to push through and make a change.

This episode, we delve deeper into exactly what “accepting something” means

But before we get to that…what the heck’s going on with jeans?!

Siena reports on the changing style of jeans.

And then we get to the main topic.

Acceptance.

It can mean more than one thing.

We talk about two kinds of acceptance, what could be called “skilled” and “unskilled” versions of it.

The skilled is a clear-eyed assessment of reality.

The unskilled is a kind of defeated and deflated resignation.

We talk about why ‘acceptance’ can easily be assumed to be a loser’s attitude. Or at least a non-winner’s.

And a little bit about why the idea that “you’re the hero of your own life” leads to bullying and beating up on yourself.
