154 Let's Frustration-Proof Ourselves

Kyra’s Bake Shop is entirely gluten free. Siena recommends their Cinnamon Rolls and Strawberry Cream Doughnuts

LISTENER WARNING: This episode has a bunch of talk about cat-related drama that only deep and genuine cat-lovers will get. Decide to listen or not, accordingly.

After fan-girling over local bakery Kyra’s Bake Shop (the only 4-time winner of Food Network’s "Cupcake Wars"), we get down to business.

We cover topics like:

  • The dark side and the character weaknesses enabled by our on-demand streaming and smartphone lifestyle

  • What can make Toast feel like a whiny little bitch

  • Cursive handwriting. Did you know kids aren’t being taught to write in cursive anymore? Who’s going to be able to sign their name? I mean really sign their name, not tap their finger on a docu-sign, which is the equivalent of scratching out an "X” on a parchment scroll.

Then we get into talking about what’s helped us dial down frustration in a way that feels more respectable and at least somewhat dignified and grown-up (as compared to being a whiny little bitch).

We talk about:

  • being clear on why you’re endeavoring to do a project

  • the expectations that set us up for feeling good or bad about a situation

  • thought distortions which are basically defeatist thoughts and ways of looking at things

  • a script or go-to phrase to help reset or remind you of expectations, and help you press forward. Here are examples:

    • "This is just what it feels like as it’s all coming together."

    • "Lower the bar. It’s only temporary."

    • "Slow is smooth; smooth is fast."

No Strawberry Cream Doughnut because they didn’t have it when we went!

We also mention ’teeny tiny goals’ in this episode, and that’s a reference to this ep right here: Do It Different: Using Teeny Tiny Goals To Make Bigger Changes
